Target type categories
1. Server and Network Monitoring
The Server and Network Monitoring service provides 24/7 mission-critical remote monitoring of any type of server, service or network device connected to the Internet. The monitoring is performed simultaneously from one or more independent monitoring locations as often as every minute. Instant alerts are triggered when server errors occur, server performance thresholds are exceeded or network connectivity problems are detected and verified from up to 3 independent monitoring resources. Two levels of service are available to select from:
Basic monitoring service verifies the availability of your servers and network components. If a successful connection with the specified server or device is established within the timeout limit, the status is considered OK. Supported servers are: PING, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, POP3, IMAP, SSH, Telnet, RTSP, MySQL
Advanced monitoring service verifies the availability and measures the performance of your servers and network components. After a connection with the server or device is established, the monitoring agent will send server or device-specific request and will verify the specific response. If the response is OK and no error is returned, the status is considered OK and the time it takes the device to respond is measured and recorded. Supported servers are: HTTP, HTTPS, POP3, SMTP, IMAP, DNS, RTSP, SIP, MySQL, MSSQL, Custom. Additionally, the Custom port set up allows you test the connection to any TCP/UDP service.
2. Website Availability and Performance Monitoring
The Website monitoring service provides 24/7 mission-critical remote availability monitoring and performance measurement of your website from end-user perspective. The monitoring is performed simultaneously from one or more independent monitoring locations as often as every minute. Instant alerts are triggered when page errors or missing objects are detected, performance thresholds are exceeded and verified from up to 3 independent resources. Two levels of service are available to select from:
Performance monitoring service verifies the availability and measures the performance of your website by simulating a repeat user experience. The monitoring agent performs a specific request and downloads the header and all HTML contents without images and other embedded objects. The content can be tested for specific keywords, file size, % of content changes and other verifications. A detailed page breakdown is provided for DNS resolution time, connect time, redirect time, first byte and last byte times. Supported protocols are: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP
Full-Page monitoring verifies the availability and measures the performance of all website components by simulating a first-time user experience. The monitoring agent performs a specific request and downloads all components of the web page including HTML, all images, frames, scripts, Flash or other embedded objects and optional, all external links are tested for availability and performance. A detailed breakdown is provided for DNS resolution time, connect time, redirect time, first byte and last byte times for every page object. Supported protocols are: HTTP, HTTPS.
3. Transaction Monitoring
The Web Transaction and web application monitoring service provides 24/7 remote monitoring of the availability and performance of complex multi-step transactions and the web applications they use, to ensure they are functioning properly and deliver excellent performance from the end-user perspective. The monitoring is performed simultaneously from one or more independent monitoring locations as often as every 5 minutes. Instant alerts are sent when an error is detected and verified, indicating the type of error and the transactional step it was detected at. Typical web transactions are customer logins, purchase order fulfillment, submitting web forms and other user interactions with a website. Three levels of service are available to select from:
Performance Transaction monitoring service verifies the availability and measures the performance of a web transaction, its individual steps and the web applications it uses based on our Performance monitoring, simulating a repeat user experience. The service downloads the header and all HTML contents of every transactional step without images and other embedded objects. Suitable for most commercial and corporate websites and supported by several Transaction Recorders for easy self setup. Supported protocols are: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP
Custom Script Transaction monitoring service verifies the availability and the performance of a custom transaction and its individual steps. It can include any types of checks that can be performed, like test SQL database, in addition to opening web pages, submitting forms, add to cart and checkout actions, etc. The Custom script is set up completely by WebSitePulse engineers based on description that you provide. Suitable for complex web applications or Rich Internet Applications which use AJAX, Web 2.0 components, dynamic JavaScript redirects, dynamic parameters and many more custom applications. Any test currently supported by the WebSitePulse system can be included in a Custom script.
Full-Page Transaction monitoring service verifies the availability and measures the performance of a web transaction, its individual steps and the web applications it uses based on our Full-Page monitoring simulating first-time user experience. The service downloads all components of every web page including HTML, all images, frames, scripts, Flash or other embedded objects and measures the times for DNS resolution, connect, redirects, first byte and last byte for every page object. Suitable for most commercial and corporate websites and supported by several Transaction Recorders for easy self setup. Supported protocols are: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP.

4. In-Browser Application monitoring
Suitable for monitoring availability and performance of complex multi-step transactions and applications. Based on the Firefox engine (GECKO). Supports multiple connections, inbrowser JavaScript rendering, page components caching. Helps identify performance problems related to how browsers load source code, images and third-party objects.
Note: To setup this target type you need Mozilla Firefox (v.4 or higher).
5. Email System Monitoring with Round-Trip
The Email System monitoring service provides 24/7 remote monitoring of the availability and performance of a sample email round-trip 2-step session, to ensure that your incoming and outgoing email services are working properly and in a timely manner from an end-to-end perspective. The email monitoring agent connects to the outgoing (SMTP) mail server, sends a test message, and then connects and logs into your incoming (POP3 or IMAP) server and tries to retrieve the message. If the message is retrieved, the test is successful and the message will be deleted from your email system. If the message cannot be retrieved, the test failed and real-time multimedia alerts will be triggered and sent to the designated contacts. The email system monitoring is performed simultaneously from up to 2 monitoring locations and with monitoring intervals up to every 15 minutes. Can be configured to automatically retrieve SMTP servers list from MX records. Supported protocols are: SMTP, POP3, IMAP, POPS3, IMAPS, SMTP over SSL
6. Security and Blacklist Monitoring
Suitable for monitoring your critical internet servers for vulnerabilities, blacklisting or open relay (proxy).
