POP3 / Post Office Protocol 3
POP3 stands for Post Office Protocol 3, an application-layer Internet standard protocol used by local e-mail clients to retrieve e-mail from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection. POP3 receives and holds email for an individual until they pick it up.
