XML stands for EXtensible Markup Language. It is a markup language that lets designers by defining set of rules to create their own customized tags to provide functionality not available with HTML.
XML was designed to store and transport data and is both human- and machine-readable.
XML is in a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for different human languages.
